So many (including Apple’s warrenty) would say liquids and electronics do not mix,  but I beg to differ. Sure, coffee has fried my PowerBook’s logic board. But I felt confident that if I allowed the acetone evaporate no harm would come to my iPhone. I till hold that statement to be true, unfortunately in this story, whether by the force of air from the hair dryer or simple the angle to which I had the phone laying in the sun, the acetone simple to rise into the phone, particularly between the LCD and the digitizer (I had no idea what that was until I got into this mess). Small bubbles and wrinkles in the fabric of the screen appeared once I had let her dry sufficiently.  Not that the screen and phone did not work it did, perfectly fine, minus a few dark distortions in the screen.

These watermarks were driving me nuts. I had to try to rid myself of them. I endeavored to open the phone and dry it out or see if I might be able to remove the remaining acetone. A simple Google of Youtube generated the proper video to instruct me on this. And in a matter of a half out I had the new iPhone 4 complete dismantled.

First think I noticed. The battery is super easy to replace. It only take removing the two bottom screws to slide the back panel off (also easy to replace), and one interal screw to release the battery cable cover and you pop that batter right out.

I will not bore you with the details of the rest of the disassembly, but needless to say, my hopes of cleaning or drying the phone after disassembly were to little avail and in the process of reassembly I pinched the ribbon cable to the LCD and  upon reassembly had no power to my display.

Terrific. I go from not being able to hear to not being able to see. Curiously, after updating iOS with that latest update (which came out during this process) the upper backlight now functions. Regardless, the screen had to be replaced. I ordered the part and it just arrived. I took a month to ship. I swapped it out today and I finally have my phone back, no thanks to Apple.

P.S. During the time my phone was blacked out. I still used it. It actually did everything I needed. I could receive a call and answer by pressing the button on the headset (I had to have a headset plugged). I could make a call, by holding down the home button and dictating who to call. I could play my podcast by placing them in a smart playlist in iTunes and voice control (holding down the home button) play playlist fresh. I knew what time it was, again through voice control what time is it. But I could not see the text messages I was receiving.

I missed a bachelor party of an Apple employee, because the best man (another Apple employee) texted me the invite and a follow-up during the time my phone display was out. I knew I had missed two texts messages, but there was now way to read them, whether through iTunes or through voice control. Thanks Apple.
