What fun! We arrived at Harris Beach State Park just north of Brookings, Oregon at lunchtime on Wednesday. We unloaded the car, ate sandwiches, and got set up. We planned to take a quick walk to the beach, come back for a nap, and return to the beach, but that’s not quite what we did.

Let me back up, we camped in a huge site with only two sites around us which were vacant until evening and occupied by quiet guests. Just at the back of our campsite was a trail that led to the beach.

We took the long, scenic walk through the trees down to where it opened to huge drift wood logs on the sand. We climbed over those with the sand, large crashing waves, and looming rocks in view. Trevor led us along the beach to a small, shallow, freshwater mini-lake (for lack of a better description). We first tried to step over the stream flowing from it. Trevor and Avalina made it with no problem. Next, I tried to swing Amabella across, but stopped before I almost threw her in the water. Trev found a piece of driftwood to lay across. Perfect! Adeliza promptly walked through the water right next to the log. Amabella followed suit. I, however, stayed completely dry. Before we knew it, Adeliza was nearly immersed in the water playing with the sand and spreading it on a driftwood log floating in the water. Amabella asked to have her shoes and socks removed as well as her pant legs rolled up. She played rather carefully at first, then got so wet she began to freeze and we all began the long, cold (for the wet ones), tired walk back. Had I thought we would swim this time at the beach, we would have put on suits and brought towels. Oops.

After a dinner of scrambled eggs with cheese, fried bananas, and pancakes, we headed over to the playground. All three girls loved it. Avalina loved sliding down the steep slide feet first and on her tummy as well as hanging from the bars and needing to be pried off finger by finger. Adeliza liked the rolling ramp she would slide down standing up. Amabella preferred climbing the bars and rock climbing wall.
