Today was the day! We had a fabulous afternoon party celebrating our baby girl’s first year. I had so much fun with the ladybug theme. I made a cake and cupcakes. We got a ladybug baby pool (as well as a larger kid’s pool) for the kids to play in. I found an adorable ladybug bathing suit for Avalina to wear and her little pigtails were perfect antennas. She got a few ladybug themed gifts like a musical instrument set, ride on toy, pillow stuffed animal, and a “daddy’s lovebug” outfit.

Since the big girls had been sick earlier in the week, I wasn’t sure what would become of the party. We finally decided that whoever decided to come would be just fine with us. Either way, the 5 of us were going to have a party and have a good time. We ended up with a wonderful group of family and friends including our neighbors and their adorable 18 month old daughter.

The party started a little after 4:00pm with appetizers and enjoying the warm sunshine in the backyard. We changed the girls into swimsuits and they and Raquel (our neighbor) played in the water or in the playhouse or ride on toys. Next, we had pizza for dinner and visited. Amabella was quite excited for Avalina to open her presents, so we did that next. As any party of ours with children, everything was a bit chaotic, but always fun. We sat in the living room with myself, my sister, and the 3 girls in a sort of mosh pit opening presents. Cards and presents seemed to be tossed about and opened by various people. At one point, I noticed I was opening her present all by myself. 🙂 Adeliza loved opening them for her sister. Avalina did a little, but didn’t mind at all. She enjoyed the tissue paper and gifts as they were opened. The big girls got presents too, from their grandparents or great-grandma. I think Avalina tried helping open these more than her own. 🙂 It was quite fun to open presents that any of the girls or their little 19 month old friend, Lucca, could play with .

Next came the cake. Avalina loved her mini ladybug cupcakes. (I let her have two.) Wednesday, the girls and I picked out the cake mixes at the store and yesterday they helped make the batter. Last night my mom helped me finish frosting the cake and cupcakes. I always take forever to make and decorate cakes, but I have fun with it. It’s even more fun to spend time doing it with someone I love.
