The Birth of Adeliza
Wednesday, February 4th, came as expected. Trevor had the day off, which means a day to relax as a family at home. Well, I headed off to bed around 10PM, then Ama woke up at 11:00. I suppose it was around 11:30 that my contractions started. I had quite a few and knew immediately we’d be having a baby some time within the next 24 hours. After a bit I got up and noticed it was only 12:15, and that my contractions must have been pretty close. I spent the next few hours monitoring my contractions and trying to relax at home like Trevor told me to do. However, around 3:30 I was in way too much pain to wait at home. To make a long story a little shorter, I told Trevor that we just needed to go the hospital, I couldn’t wait any longer. We got ready and arrived at Kaiser around 4:30. I was in a lot of pain to say the least. Poor Ama and Trevor had to listen to me through the contractions on the way to the hospital.
With the help of 3-4 nurses and Trevor, I got situated in the room, and survived as each contraction came and went . I was at 7-8cm already. I got a little medicine, which I suppose helped a little. The midwife suggested I not get an epidural, but that they break my water and start pushing. She thought that as soon as she broke the water, I’d fully dilate and be ready to push within 5 minutes, then that I’d have the baby within half an hour. She was totally right. So, I guess it was around 5:30 I was at a 9 or 9.5cm and she broke my water, then almost immediately I was able to push and Adeliza was born at 5:55AM An hour and a half at the hospital and our second little girl was born. Had I known, I probably would have headed to the hospital sooner so that I could have had more pain relief, but the whole experience was much shorter than with Amabella, so for that I was very thankful.
Trevor’s parents arrived as I was getting settled into the room and brought Ama to the waiting room. My parents arrived around 5:00 and visited with Darryl, Judy, and Ama, then came into the room with me. My dad, mom, and Trevor were in the room as I started to deliver the baby. My sister, Tiffany, arrived from the city about 5:45 and came in to help. Next, our friend Dan arrived for the very end of birth. We had a smaller welcoming crew for Adi, but just as important.
We had a short stay at the hospital and we’re able to leave at 11:00AM Friday February 6th.
Final interesting fact: Both of our girls were born on the 5th of a month, were delivered while it was raining out, and headed home in the rain.
