Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
Yes, this did happen in my house only moments before we were planning to celebrate Christmas with Trevor’s family on Saturday. Three children were standing on the couch dangerously close to the tree. Before I could get to the room, one pushed another who tried to keep her balance by holding on to the tree. I’m thankful that God gave me grace to not lose my mind but to check on my daughter who was under the tree first and make sure she wasn’t hurt instead of immediately reprimanding them for standing on the couch. Then we, relatively calmly, started redecorating the tree as the relatives arrived. The cousins joined in on the redecorating until the tree toppled again. This time the, now quite unstable, tree was moved and redecorating began before it began to fall over again. The tree was then strangely propped and extra ornaments were boxed up. We now have a beautifully sparse Christmas tree that may at any moment fall over again, but we enjoyed our Christmas and hope the tree survives the week until Christmas is actually here.
Either way, memories and family are what Christmas is made of anyway, second to why we celebrate Christmas to begin with: the greatest gift we’ll ever receive – a baby born to show us the Way and die to allow us the Way to get there. Thank you my father God for sending Jesus for us! Thank you Jesus for willingly surrendering yourself to die for me. And thank you Holy Spirit for daily working in me – even in the little things like having patience when the Christmas tree falls over and reminding me that having everything perfect on Christmas isn’t what it’s all about. And perhaps that redirects me to how that first Christmas really wasn’t all put together neatly either – no room in the inns so Mary had to deliver her baby, the son of God, the Savior of the world, the King of Kings, in a stable and lay Him in a manger! Perhaps having things perfectly together might take my focus off of the reason for Christmas. Perhaps having things all together at Christmas would make me forget that without Christ, my Savior, I can’t have life truly put together. Without Him I have a false sense of control over my life as I try to have everything neatly put together when, in reality, it’s OK if things are a bit messy on the outside if I have asked God to forgive me and lead my life because He’s working on me from the inside out. So many beautiful reminders!
I pray that each of you have a Christmas that is exactly as put together or as messy as God knows is just right for you to see His son: the perfect gift He has beneath your tree. God loves you! He offers the free gift of forgiveness and a fresh start and desires to lead you in a life filled with joy, peace, hope, love…
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of Godʼs one and only Son.”

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. … for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
